Friends of Deckers Creek (FODC) staff, interns, and volunteers monitor water quality throughout the Deckers Creek Watershed. Popular recreation sites are tested for total coliform and E coli as part of FODC’s bacteriological monitoring program. Samples are analyzed using the IDEXX Quanti-Tray/2000 method. Sites are tested twice a month during peak recreation season (May - September) and once a month during the rest of the year (October - April). Samples are generally collected on Tuesdays and results are posted on Swim Guide within 48 hours. Advisories are posted when E coli concentrations exceed 410 cfu/100mL, following the EPA’s recommended criteria. A beach is marked green when results show that E coli is less than 410 cfu/100mL. A beach will be marked red when results show that E coli is greater or equal to 410 cfu/100mL. Please contact FODC at (304) 292-3970 or info@deckerscreek.org if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to collect water samples. You may report pollution anonymously online via https://www.creekdog.org/.
