Anchorage Beach

Anchorage Beach is a long sandy stretch that is perfect for walking, or for relaxing along the shore of Grand Manan. It is also a real treat for nature lovers, with harbour porpoises, sea gulls and whales commonly spotted near the island off the coast. At low tide you can access the Bird Sanctuary portion of the beach (just cross the stream that runs out of Long Pond), where you can view as many as 275 different species of birds. The water, however, is typically too cold for swimming, as the Bay of Fundy is quite deep (being part of the North Atlantic Ocean). The beach is located within Anchorage Provincial Park, accessed off route 776, and has many amenities including parking, change rooms, picnic tables and shelters, and camping available on site.
