Australian Government – National Capital Authority

The National Capital Authority or NCA, is responsible for developing an understanding and appreciation of the role of Canberra as the National Capital and has a custodial role ensuring the unique heritage and culture of Canberra are maintained.
The NCA manages the Australian Government’s assets within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), such as Lake Burley Griffin, the National Carillon, ANZAC Parade, Commonwealth Park and the Parliamentary Triangle. These are some of the National Capital’s most significant landscapes and attractions, in the heart of the city.
Each week during the Summer Recreational Season (mid-October to mid-April), the NCA monitors water quality at nine sites around Lake Burley Griffin. The water quality is assessed in accordance with the ACT Guidelines for Recreational Water Quality, by ACT Health
The samples are analysed for bacteria (Enterococci) and blue green algae (cyanobacteria). The results are shared with the public through multiple lines of communication, including the Swim Guide.
